Melaka State Assembly to Be Dissolved Effective Tomorrow – Chief Minister

MELAKA: Speculation over the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly has ended after Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced that the state assembly will be officially dissolved tomorrow.

The announcement ends weeks of speculation over the date of the dissolution and paves the way for the state election process.

Ab Rauf said the dissolution, which takes effect on Sept 23, was made pursuant to Clause (2) of Article 19 of the Melaka State Constitution.

“I had an audience with the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Melaka, Tun Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, to inform him of the status of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly and subsequently sought his consent for its dissolution.

“I am pleased to announce that Tun Mohd Ali has consented to the dissolution of the Melaka State Legislative Assembly, effective tomorrow, Sept 23, 2026,” he told a press conference here today.

Following the dissolution, the Election Commission (EC) is expected to take further action, including setting the dates for the issuance of the election writ, nomination day and polling day in accordance with the law.

For the record, the Melaka State Legislative Assembly has 28 seats, with the current state government’s mandate due to expire on Dec 31 if the assembly is not dissolved earlier.
