More than 1.8 million Muslims around the world are performing Hajj this year

MECCA: A total of 1,833,164 Muslims from around the world performed the Hajj this year, according to the General Authority for Statistics of Saudi Arabia.

Bernama reports, according to statistics released by the relevant authorities to the media here, of that number, 958,137 congregations are male while 875,027 are female congregations.

The authority informed that the number of foreign pilgrims was 1,611,310 while the local pilgrims were 221,854.

“The percentage of pilgrims from Asia excluding Arab countries represents 63.3 percent, Arab countries (22.3 percent), African countries (11.3 percent), and Europe, North and South America and Australia (3.2 percent),” according to the authority.

The statistics show that the highest number of pilgrims arriving is through the airport with 1,546,345 people followed by land (60,251) and ports (4,714).

Meanwhile, the number of pilgrims who benefited from the Makkah Route Initiative during this year’s Hajj season was 322,901 people.

Meanwhile, the authorities also stated that one of the objectives of this detailed data collection is to support decision makers in improving the services offered to pilgrims.

“These statistics contribute to the evaluation of the services provided by the entities responsible for serving the pilgrims,” ​​according to the authority.
