MOM choose a new design, showing a ‘fierce pattern’ to Paris
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Olympic Council (MOM) has chosen a new design featuring a ‘fierce’ tiger stripe pattern for the official uniform of the national contingent to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
According to Bernama, MOM President Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria in a statement today said the change was made following mixed feedback on the previous design and motive which was seen as not outstanding.
Mohamad Norza informed that the new pattern chosen has a black background with a yellow tiger stripe that is clearer and larger on the front and back of the jacket.
He said this time’s design also highlighted the MOM logo with the Jalur Gemilang in its original color, compared to the gold-colored MOM logo displayed on the previous pattern.
“MOM believes that this new pattern design symbolizes the Tiger spirit which has been the identity of the Malaysian Contingent since it was first introduced at the Southeast Asian Games or SEA Games in Manila in 2005.
“It is MOM’s hope to represent stakeholders including the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS), the National Sports Council (MSN) and the National Sports Institute (ISN) so that the spirit of the Tigers becomes an inspiration for national athletes to ‘roar’ in the city of Paris later,” he said.
Mohamad Norza said the brighter patterns and motives are expected to not only highlight the identity and uniformity of the contingent, but more importantly symbolize the strength, agility and courage of the athletes to fight in the name of the country.
Meanwhile, for the T-shirt design with a gold colored collar, he said MOM still maintains the same pattern and motive but with a sketch of the MOM logo with the colors of the Jalur Gemilang as a sign of respect for the national flag.
He also informed that the contingent’s official clothing sponsor, Yonex Sunrise Malaysia has given special permission to the governing body to print and produce jackets with fabric from different manufacturers due to time factors.
“Due to the time factor, MOM got permission from the Yonex Sunrise Malaysia sponsors so that the Yonex or YY logo is not displayed on both the jacket and the T-shirt.
“This is because the process for Yonex Sunrise Malaysia to print and prepare these official clothes requires an agreement process with the manufacturer as the standard operating procedure (SOP) of the brand,” he said.
The MOM president expressed his deepest gratitude to Yonex Sunrise Malaysia, who have been sponsoring the national contingent’s official clothing for 10 years, especially for their willingness to allow the production of new official clothing using different fabrics and designs.
He said a total of 26 athletes representing the country had to display a high and strong fighting spirit in accordance with the characteristics and motives of the Tiger stripes that were highlighted.
According to the statement, MOM also appreciates the willingness of Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh who respects the main position as an independent National Sports Association umbrella body and recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as a National Olympic Committee (NOC) since 1954.
He also hoped that all Malaysians would extend their undivided support to all members of the Malaysian contingent at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which open from July 26 to August 11.
