Anwar received a courtesy visit from the Legislative Council of the Oliy of Uzbekistan

KUALA LUMPUR: The Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today, received a courtesy visit from the Speaker of the Legislative Council of the Oliy of Uzbekistan, Dr Nuriddin Ismoilov.

According to Bernama, the Malaysian Parliament announced in a statement that the courtesy visit was held at the Parliament Building as a continuation of Anwar’s visit to Uzbekistan last May.

Nuriddin was in Malaysia since yesterday for an official visit until this Thursday, aiming to further strengthen good relations and cooperation in various fields between Malaysia and Uzbekistan.

Earlier, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tan Sri Johari Abdul together with members of the Malaysian Parliamentary Friendship Group for Central Asia also held a bilateral meeting with Nuriddin and his delegation.

The meeting discussed the importance of intensifying bilateral cooperation and activities in the legislative field, the tourism sector, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and student exchange, both countries.

The meeting also discussed the chairmanship of the Malaysian Parliament in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) in 2025 and Nuriddin expressed the support of the Legislative Council of the Oliy Council for the direction of the Malaysian Parliament together to develop a prosperous ASEAN region.

In April 2023, Johari paid an official visit to Tashkent, Uzbekistan as an observer of the constitutional referendum which witnessed significant constitutional amendments involving reforms to the republic’s social and administrative rights.

The statement also informed that Nuriddin and the delegation are scheduled to hold a meeting with the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and the Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

The relationship between Malaysia and Uzbekistan is not only in the economic field and the administrative branch of the government, but also involves the legislative branch between the two countries.
