KUALA LUMPUR|| July 2: A married couple was arrested at a hotel in Shah Alam on Tuesday (July 1) for allegedly operating a prostitution ring and distributing pornographic videos through social media platforms.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the couple, both aged 34, were detained at approximately 8pm by officers from the D7 (Anti-Vice, Gambling, and Secret Societies) division of the Kuala Lumpur police contingent.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the husband was the mastermind behind the operation, acting as a content creator who promoted and sold pornographic videos featuring his wife and her clients. In addition, he managed prostitution activities to generate income.
“His wife acted as the prostitute and also played the main role in the pornographic content. The couple reportedly earned up to RM6,400 a week,” Rusdi said in a statement today.
According to police, the couple used the X platform (formerly Twitter) to advertise and sell the pornographic videos, while prostitution services were arranged through the Telegram messaging app. Their rates for sexual services at a four-star hotel ranged between RM450 and RM800, while video prices ranged from RM50 to RM150.
Police have remanded both suspects for three days until July 4 to facilitate further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Sections 372(1), 372A, and 372B of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which deals with the misuse of network facilities.
Police have urged the public to report any similar suspicious activities and reiterated their commitment to cracking down on vice-related crimes involving digital platforms.
