Man with Intellectual Disability Reported Missing After Leaving Home

BATU GAJAH: A 26-year-old man with an intellectual disability was reported missing after leaving his home in Kampung Batu 8, Jalan Tanjung Tualang here on Monday.

The Batu Gajah Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) received a call regarding the incident at 2.38pm.

Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division Assistant Director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said that as of 6pm, the search and rescue operation had yet to locate the man.

“Initial information received from the police indicated that he left through the back door of his house before entering a nearby oil palm plantation,” he said in a statement.

The search and rescue operation involved seven firefighters, assisted by seven police personnel, including the K9 Unit, as well as 30 villagers.

Sabarodzi said the search covered an area stretching about 700 metres from the man’s house to the nearby oil palm plantation, which also includes swampy terrain.

He said the search operation had to be suspended at 6pm for safety reasons and would resume at 8am on Tuesday.

“Tomorrow’s operation will involve searches in three sectors — the swamp, mining pond and drainage canal — with additional personnel from nearby fire stations as well as the Fire and Rescue Department’s K9 unit,” he said.
