Man Who Allegedly Threw Five-Year-Old Niece Into River Remanded for Seven Days

KOTA TINGGI: A local man who allegedly threw his five-year-old niece into a river in Kampung Padang, Tanjung Sedili, here yesterday has been remanded for seven days, beginning today.

The remand order against the 37-year-old suspect was issued by Judge Hafizah Abdul Rajak at the Kota Tinggi Sessions Court here to assist investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

Before being brought to court, the suspect was taken to Kota Tinggi Hospital for medical treatment.

Yesterday, Kota Tinggi District Police Chief Superintendent Yusof Othman was reported as saying that police arrested the suspect following a report received regarding the incident at about 9.30am.

“Police received a report that a local man had run amok while armed with a machete and chased a 40-year-old man.

“Prior to that, the suspect was believed to have thrown a five-year-old girl into the river, resulting in the child’s death,” he said.
