KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 : Malaysia’s National Heart Institute (Institut Jantung Negara, IJN) has extended its medical expertise to Brunei as Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah undergoes a right knee replacement surgery today at a leading medical facility in the Sultanate.

IJN confirmed that its senior cardiologist, Dr Azmee Ghazi, is involved in providing specialised cardiovascular care to the 79-year-old monarch following the procedure. The participation reflects IJN’s international standing in advanced cardiology and its readiness to support complex medical cases beyond Malaysia’s borders.

In a statement, IJN said the involvement underscores the institute’s decades-long experience in high-technology cardiovascular treatment and its adherence to international quality standards.

“Dr Azmee’s participation highlights his leadership in advanced cardiology and heart failure management, while also demonstrating IJN’s continued commitment to producing globally recognised specialists,” the institute said.

IJN added that it remains prepared to contribute its expertise wherever required, guided by professionalism, precision and a strong sense of responsibility in patient care.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveyed his well wishes to Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah on January 14 after learning of the upcoming surgery. In a Facebook post, Anwar prayed for the Sultan’s good health and a successful procedure, expressing confidence in the care provided by IJN.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah is one of the world’s longest-reigning monarchs and maintains close diplomatic and personal ties with Malaysia.
