Klang, Malaysia : Malaysian police have thwarted a major drug smuggling attempt to Australia, seizing two containers carrying MDMA and heroin worth approximately RM80.3 million at West Port, Klang. The operation was conducted on Jan. 19.
Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, Director of Bukit Aman’s Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN), said the first container was found to contain 408 boxes with 6,528 bottles of olive oil suspected to be filled with liquid MDMA, weighing around 4,064 kilograms.
The second container contained 1,831 cartons of fruit juice, with 54,930 drink boxes suspected to contain liquid heroin, totaling approximately 9,887.4 kilograms.
“This operation was carried out jointly with the Australian Federal Police (AFP) under Joint Taskforce Tiger, following intelligence that the two containers from the Middle East were transiting through Port Klang on their way to Australia,” Hussein said.
Initial investigations revealed that Port Klang was used only as a transit point. The containers were ultimately destined for Melbourne and Sydney. Shipping documents falsely listed the cargo as olive oil and fruit-flavored beverages.
Hussein emphasized that Port Klang has previously been exploited by syndicates as a transit hub for illegal drugs. “The police remain vigilant and are continuing investigations to determine whether the same syndicate is responsible or if multiple groups are involved,” he said.
The JSJN, in cooperation with the AFP and other relevant agencies, is continuing investigations to identify the international networks behind the smuggling attempt.
