Malaysia, Saudi Arabia Sign MoU to Strengthen Judicial Cooperation

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia and Saudi Arabia today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in the field of judiciary.

The MoU was signed by the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court, Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh, and the Saudi Arabian Minister of Justice, Sheikh Dr Waleed Mohammed Alsmani, at the Palace of Justice, here.

The ceremony, held in conjunction with Sheikh Dr Waleed’s official visit to Malaysia, was witnessed by the Chief Justice of Malaysia, Tun Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court, the MoU provides a framework for closer cooperation in areas including civil case management, judicial technology and digitalisation, exchange of practical experience as well as publicly accessible judicial information, institutional visits and periodic exchanges.

The statement informed that the MoU also marks a significant achievement in Malaysia-Saudi Arabia judicial relations by providing a structured platform for closer institutional engagement, knowledge sharing and ongoing cooperation towards efficient administration of justice.

“The Malaysian Judiciary looks forward to the successful implementation of the areas of cooperation outlined in the MoU and efforts to continue strengthening the long-established relations between Malaysia and Saudi Arabia,” according to the statement.

Meanwhile, the statement informed that this official visit reflects the long-standing good relations between both countries as well as the shared commitment to strengthen judicial cooperation and knowledge sharing.

The programme also included a courtesy call on Wan Ahmad Farid, followed by a judicial dialogue and experience-sharing session focusing on the Malaysian judiciary’s approach to sexual offences against children and judicial digitalisation through the e-Judiciary system.
