KOTA BARU|| July 3, 2025: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that its ongoing investigation into the MyKiosk construction tender does not involve any criminal elements. Instead, the probe is now focused on examining governance-related issues within the Ministry of Housing and Local Government.

MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki clarified the matter during a press conference following a handover ceremony between the incoming Kelantan MACC director Azmin Yusoff and his predecessor Rosli Husain.

“There appears to be a misunderstanding suggesting this is a criminal investigation. We have conducted a preliminary probe and found no evidence of criminal wrongdoing. However, we are looking into possible weaknesses in governance to offer recommendations for institutional improvements,” Azam stated.

The MACC’s investigation was initiated after receiving reports from both MCA Youth and the ministry itself. Azam noted that the ministry had shown full cooperation during the inquiry process.

The case came to public attention on July 2, when MACC confirmed it had begun probing allegations of corruption and misappropriation involving the MyKiosk project, a government initiative under the purview of the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

MACC to Forfeit RM170 Million in Former PM Case

In a separate development, Azam Baki also addressed the case involving former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. He revealed that the MACC will be applying to the court to forfeit assets valued at RM170 million that were previously seized during the investigation.

“If he (Ismail Sabri) contests the forfeitures in court, the case will proceed to trial. Should the forfeiture be successful, the assets will be turned over as government revenue,” said Azam.

The MACC has called in Ismail Sabri multiple times to provide statements regarding his asset declaration under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act 2009, during his service as prime minister from August 2021 to November 2022.

The Bera Member of Parliament is being investigated for corruption and money laundering, specifically relating to the use of public funds for the “Keluarga Malaysia” publicity and promotion campaign during his time in office.

The case is being handled under the MACC Act 2009 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing, and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001.
