KUALA LUMPUR: The Evaluation Committee of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is evaluating a complaint regarding an alleged discrepancy in petroleum cargo documents at Tanjung Langsat Port, Johor.

Maritime Network Sdn Bhd Chief Executive Officer, R Jeyenderan, who lodged the complaint via email in mid-June, said it is still under investigation.

“We respect the MACC and the investigation process.

“We only want to know the current status and whether additional information is required,” he said in a statement.

Earlier, Jeyenderan had arrived at the MACC Headquarters to get updates on the investigation.

The media previously reported concerns raised by Malaysian Corruption Watch (MCW) regarding the alleged discrepancy in petroleum cargo documents, as it could open the door to various forms of misconduct.

Its President, Jais Abdul Karim, was quoted as saying that the MACC should give immediate attention to the allegation if there were elements of corruption, abuse of power or document forgery.

Meanwhile, Jeyenderan believes that the investigation and findings from the complaint have the potential to have broader implications for the maritime industry.

“It involves regulatory compliance, government revenue and confidence in the maritime and petroleum industry,” he said.
