The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has apprehended a corporate director on allegations of soliciting and taking a bribe amounting to RM1 million.

Sources indicate that the bribe was purportedly solicited to get a subcontractor role for a food and beverage supply service deal, estimated at over RM900 million, intended for workers.

The male suspect, aged in his 50s, was arrested at around 8 PM last night following a statement given at the MACC Putrajaya headquarters.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly perpetrated the conduct in August 2023, with the illicit funds linked to an account registered under the suspect’s firm name.

Additionally, the suspect is purported to have fraudulently asserted being the primary contractor for a five-year food and beverage supply tender for workers at an oil refinery, despite the absence of such a tender.

The suspect, who fraudulently asserted to be a Datuk, had a past criminal record pertaining to fraud, according to sources.

Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin granted a five-day remand order for the suspect, effective till January 20, in response to a request from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in the Putrajaya Magistrates’ Court earlier today.

Datuk Azmi Kamaruzaman, senior director of the MACC Special Operations Division, confirmed the arrest and stated that the matter is under investigation according to Section 16(a)(A) of the MACC Act 2009.
