At the third Khair Ummah conference of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in Bangkok on Sunday, people stressed that Islam is based on worshiping Allah and following the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad. They also urged Muslims to support moderation while working for progress.

The Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs in Thailand put together the two-day event. At the end of it, there was a communiqué in which attendees asked scholars to uphold Islam’s tolerant values and correct misunderstandings of religious discourse.

According to the Saudi Press Agency, they talked about how important it was to follow the example of the Prophet’s friends, fight extremism, and reject groups that used faith for their own gain.

People who took part stressed how important it is to use modern media and technology to spread Islam, fight false information with study, and create programs that teach young people Islamic values and tolerance.

The conference was mostly about study papers written by different scholars. Its goal was to improve communication between Islamic institutions and leaders in order to advance civilization.

On Saturday, Sheikh Abdullatif Al-Asheikh, Saudi Arabia’s Islamic Minister, said that the conference’s main goal was to improve Islamic unity and uphold Islamic identity through unity and sticking to the truth.

He said that scholars had a big job to do because the world was having big problems in intellectual, political, social, and security areas.

Asheikh went on to say, “This situation needs a real response from scholars and researchers to make clear the right religious stance against sedition and to strengthen the core principles of the Islamic faith.”
