LAHAD DATU: Lahad Datu Deputy District Police Chief Superintendent Jimmy anak Panyau, 53, has died after undergoing treatment for health problems related to his liver and bile duct.

He was pronounced dead at the Kuching Life Care Society in Sarawak at 9.30pm yesterday.

Lahad Datu District Police Chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail, when contacted, confirmed the death and said Jimmy, who was of Iban descent, had sought treatment at Borneo Medical Centre in Kuching on Aug 14, 2026, after experiencing liver-related health problems.

Jimmy was subsequently admitted to the ward for further examination and treatment before being discharged on Aug 15 and given medical leave until Aug 23.

Prior to that, he had also undergone medical examinations, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), at Gleneagles Hospital in Kota Kinabalu after experiencing loss of appetite and constipation.

The examination found a growth involving the liver and bile duct area.

On Aug 20, Jimmy sought treatment at Sarawak General Hospital before being admitted to the Male Surgical Ward for further monitoring and treatment.

“During his lifetime, he was highly dedicated in carrying out his duties in Lahad Datu,” Dzulbaharin said.

Jimmy had previously held the rank of Deputy Superintendent and served as Mukah District Police Chief.
