KUALA LUMPUR: Administrators of Ministry of Education (KPM) institutions must adhere to existing guidelines regarding the organization of programs and the acceptance of donations.

According to Bernama, KPM stated today that these guidelines include prohibiting donations from sources such as gambling, tobacco, drugs, alcoholic beverages, and similar items that could undermine students’ intellectual, spiritual, emotional, and physical development.

“KPM welcomes the efforts of schools to organize programs and obtain donations for development purposes in line with the Community-Owned School initiative.

“However, this must be carried out according to the Circular Letter of Professional Number 3 of 2018,” the statement said.

The statement noted that KPM is always proactive in addressing social issues among the youth, and various awareness and preventive education programs are organized in schools to provide guidance to students.

Therefore, the ministry takes the issue of charity programs at a school involving donations from alcohol companies, as recently reported by the media, very seriously.

“This issue is under KPM’s attention and a further investigation is underway,” the statement added.

The statement reiterated that KPM is consistently proactive in tackling social issues among the younger generation, with various awareness and preventive education programs held in schools to guide students.
