KLIA Drug Seizures Soar Sixfold, Reach RM108.35 Million
PETALING JAYA: The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) seized various types of drugs weighing 1.35 tonnes worth RM108.35 million through operations to crack down on drug smuggling and trafficking syndicates at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) throughout the first seven months of this year.
From January until yesterday, a total of 108 cases were recorded at KLIA, an increase compared to 54 cases for the same period last year.
Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) Director, Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the number of arrests also increased to 121 individuals compared to 57 individuals in the previous year.
He said 42 of them are foreigners believed to be involved in drug trafficking activities through KLIA.
“Intelligence and close monitoring operations at KLIA have succeeded in foiling attempts to smuggle drugs in and out in large quantities.
“The total weight of drugs seized increased sixfold, from 235.36 kg in 2025 to 1,353.41 kg this year,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, JSJN’s priority in disrupting the drug supply chain also showed an increase when cases under the supply or distribution category rose from 18 cases to 47 cases for the same period.
He explained that the number of drug traffickers arrested also increased almost threefold from 21 people last year to 59 people this year.
“The success was achieved through various special operations launched at KLIA to strengthen aggressive actions in combating the drug threat at the country’s main entry point.
“It is the result of strategic cooperation between PDRM through JSJN and the Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) Auxiliary Police through rapid intelligence information sharing, integrated monitoring and strict security control at KLIA,” he said.
Hussein said JSJN detected a change in the syndicate’s modus operandi which is now bringing in cannabis-type drugs when 1,251.18 kilogrammes were seized this year compared to only 82.98 kilogrammes in the same period last year.
“Seizures of ketamine-type drugs also increased to 16.51 kilogrammes compared to 2.15 kilogrammes in 2025,” he said.
Commenting on the arrest of a pilot from an airline company believed to be smuggling drugs in Indonesia, he said JSJN is investigating the possibility of drug trafficking syndicates using airline crew or air routes for the activity.
“We are reviewing closed-circuit television footage and analysing related images to assist investigations,” he said.
