KUALA LUMPUR: Motorists in the capital are advised to prepare for road closures and traffic diversions from October 23 to 28 as Kuala Lumpur hosts the 47th ASEAN Summit and its accompanying dry runs.

In a statement issued on Friday (Oct 10), Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the measures would be implemented in stages to ensure the smooth movement of official delegations and to maintain high-level security throughout the event.

According to the police, motorcade dry runs will be conducted on Oct 23 and 24, covering routes from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to several hotels in the city center, including those in the KLCC area.

From Oct 25 to 28, full traffic control operations will be in effect, involving road diversions and restricted access within approximately a 1 km radius around KLCC, where many summit activities will take place.

Comm Mohd Yusri added that a detailed list of affected roads and specific diversion schedules will be released closer to the event date to help the public plan their journeys in advance.

The 47th ASEAN Summit, to be held in Kuala Lumpur, will see the attendance of world leaders and heads of government from the United States, China, India, Australia, Canada, Brazil, South Africa, Japan, South Korea, and all ASEAN member nations.

The summit is expected to focus on regional cooperation, economic integration, and security partnerships, with Malaysia playing host to high-level discussions that could shape future ASEAN policies.

Authorities are urging road users to remain patient, follow traffic updates, and use alternative routes or public transportation to minimize congestion during the summit week.
