KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s King, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, has issued a firm call for decisive action against any elements that threaten national harmony, stressing that unity must be protected without compromise.
In his Aidilfitri 2026 message shared on Facebook, the King expressed concern that his previous warnings on unity and mutual respect had not been fully heeded. He emphasized that maintaining harmony goes beyond enforcement and dialogue, requiring consistent practice of civility in everyday life.
“It is not merely about legal action or discussions among leaders,” His Majesty said, “but about nurturing and reinforcing good manners and respect among the people at all times.”
Sultan Ibrahim reminded Malaysians of the importance of the Rukun Negara, particularly the principle of courtesy and morality, questioning whether society has fallen short in instilling these fundamental values. He voiced concern over increasingly toxic attitudes and behavior that risk creating tension within the nation.

Highlighting recent incidents, the King pointed to controversies such as socks bearing the word “Allah,” the national flag being flown upside down, desecration of the Quran, inappropriate conduct in mosques, and irresponsible remarks on social media that fuel hatred and division.
“We cannot accept rude behavior, whether between different communities or within the same community,” he stressed.
Despite these concerns, His Majesty expressed confidence that the majority of Malaysians remain respectful and responsible. He urged this majority to stand firm and ensure their voices outweigh those who promote negativity and discord.
The king also reminded citizens to appreciate the peace and stability Malaysia enjoys, especially as many countries around the world face conflict. Echoing the timeless message, “United we stand, divided we fall,” he called on all Malaysians to preserve unity as a shared national responsibility.
Additionally, Sultan Ibrahim underscored the importance of careful and balanced handling of sensitive issues by authorities, urging them to act with prudence and thorough consideration to avoid mistakes that could further inflame tensions.
His message serves as a strong reminder that unity, respect, and responsible conduct remain the foundation of Malaysia’s strength as a diverse nation.
