Israeli shooters shoot at healthcare workers and patients at Kamal Adwan Hospital, the hospital’s director says
The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, one of the last working hospitals in besieged northern Gaza, says Israeli snipers fired at patients and staff in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Doctor Hussam Abu Safiya said that on Monday, the shooters went after the ICU “for the first time.”
He stated, “The hospital had every window broken.”
“The situation in the hospital is getting worse, and it will turn into a graveyard for everyone inside the hospital.”
Safiya stated that the regime’s quadcopters were firing at “anyone who moves in the courtyard of the hospital, creating a very dangerous situation for patients and staff.”
the hospital.”
“It’s clear that the focus is on the hospital—its building, its surroundings, and anyone moving inside it,” Safiya said.
The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital reiterated an appeal for “international protection,” urging the World Health Organization (WHO) and the world community to “intervene urgently.”
Safiya said that the staff and patients are going through “tough hours” without water, power, or oxygen.
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who is the Director-General of the WHO, said that what was happening in the hospital was “simply appalling.”
He asked “for the protection of health care and for this hell to stop” in a message to X on Monday.
“The fighting around the hospital is still going on, and the most recent attacks have broken windows and doors in patients’ rooms and damaged the oxygen supply and generators even more.”
According to the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor, Israel’s military has attacked Kamal Adwan Hospital more than 20 times in the last 10 days, injuring “several patients, medical personnel, and their companions.”
Israel is “routinely” targeting medical teams in the north of Gaza “to destroy the health system and impose intolerable living conditions on civilians while denying them access to life-saving care.”
The besieged population of northern Gaza has been facing starvation, displacement, and annihilation amid relentless bombardment and suffocating restrictions on life-saving humanitarian aid for more than two months.
Observers report that the Israeli regime is currently engaging in land grabs in the area under the threat of extermination.
