Tehran, June 13, 2025 – In a dramatic escalation of regional tensions, six senior Iranian nuclear scientists were killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility, according to Iranian state-affiliated media outlet Tasnim.
The rare and deadly strike, carried out early Friday, reportedly claimed the lives of top nuclear experts, including Abdul Hamid Minouchehr, Ahmedreza Zolfaghari, Amirhossein Fekhi, Motalebelizadeh, Mohammad Mehdi Tehranichi, and Fereydoon Abbasi. All six were key figures in Iran’s nuclear research and development program.
In addition to the nuclear scientists, reports from Iran claim that three high-ranking military officials were also killed, including Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, and Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the operation, stating, “Israel has targeted nuclear facilities in Natanz with the aim of neutralizing Iran’s nuclear capabilities.” Our operations will continue until the threat is completely dismantled.”
The strike comes amid ongoing negotiations between Iran and the United States aimed at limiting Iran’s uranium enrichment, a key component in nuclear weapons development. Iranian media have accused Israel of attempting to derail the diplomatic process through direct military confrontation.
In anticipation of potential retaliation, including missile and drone attacks, Israel has declared a state of emergency. Civil defense authorities have ordered civilians to seek shelter and remain in secure locations across multiple regions.
This incident marks one of the deadliest and most high-profile strikes on Iranian soil in recent years and signals a sharp deterioration in Israeli-Iranian hostilities with global implications for regional security and nuclear non-proliferation efforts.
