Iran will not abandon its nuclear goals, says President Masoud Pezeshkian. He also says Iran will not accept war threats from the US.
Pezeshkian said these things at an event honoring National Nuclear Technology Day and showing off the latest advances in the field. He stressed that the more threats the US makes, the stronger Iran will be.
“We want peace and safety, and we’re willing to talk, but only if it’s based on respect and pride.” He also said, “We will never give up on our goals or compromise on what we’ve accomplished. No one will ever be able to stop us from thinking or from being innovative and creative.”
Pezeshkian also said again that Tehran does not want nuclear weapons.
“Iran wants to make nuclear bombs,” the West says. Who is more trustworthy than Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, the Islamic Revolution’s leader, who publicly said we aren’t making nuclear bombs? “You’ve checked it a hundred times, and you can check it a thousand times more, but know this: we need nuclear science and energy in every field,” he said.
The president said Iran doesn’t want war but will defend itself.
“We don’t want to go to war, but we will be strong against any aggression thanks to the knowledge and power that our loved ones gave us.” The more they attack us, the stronger we become. As they threaten us, we will stand our ground even more. The speaker, Pezeshkian, clarified it that they were not going to attack anyone.
He also said that Ayatollah Khamenei said Iran is ready to negotiate, but not directly because it doesn’t “trust them.” He asked, “How can they ban our resources and communications and then ask us to talk?”
In other parts of his speech, he discussed the JCPOA, the historic nuclear deal that Iran and world powers made in 2015. The US abruptly pulled out of the deal in 2018 and put sanctions back on Iran, even though Tehran was still following all of its obligations under it.
“We kept the promises we made in the JCPOA, but they broke them.” We didn’t want to leave the agreement. Every day, they made threats. “When they threaten us, we will always fight back,” Pezeshkian said.
“I am sure that we will be able to keep going strong, and Furthermore, I am sure that these problems will be solved through the talks that will happen,” he added.
On Saturday, high-level representatives from Iran and the US will meet in Muscat, the city of Oman, to start indirect talks about Iran’s nuclear program and lifting sanctions against it.
