Iran Rejects US Proposal, Sets Five Preconditions for Ending War

TEHRAN: Iran has firmly rejected a recent US proposal aimed at ending the ongoing imposed war, making it clear that any cessation of hostilities will only take place on Tehran’s terms and timeline, according to a senior political-security official speaking to Press TV on Wednesday.

The official, who has direct knowledge of the proposal, stated that Iran will not allow US President Donald Trump or Washington to dictate the timing of the war’s conclusion. “Iran will end the war when it decides to do so and when its own conditions are met,” the official said, emphasizing Tehran’s determination to continue its defensive operations and inflict “heavy blows” until its demands are fulfilled.

The official described Washington’s recent overture delivered through a friendly regional intermediary as a continuation of past failed attempts at negotiation, noting that previous rounds in spring and winter 2025 were “deceptive,” with the US showing no genuine intent for dialogue and subsequently launching military attacks against Iran.

Tehran has outlined five specific conditions for any ceasefire: A complete halt to all acts of aggression and assassinations by the enemy. Concrete mechanisms to ensure the war is not reimposed on the Islamic Republic. Guaranteed and clearly defined payment of war damages and reparations. Termination of the war across all fronts and for all resistance groups in the region. Recognition of Iran’s sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz as a legal and natural right, serving as a guarantee for the other party’s commitments.

The official noted that these demands are in addition to prior conditions presented during the second round of Geneva negotiations, held just days before renewed US-Israeli aggression on February 28. Iran has communicated to intermediaries acting in good faith that a ceasefire is contingent upon acceptance of all its conditions, and no negotiations will occur beforehand.

“The end of the war will happen when Iran decides it should end, not when Trump envisions its conclusion,” the official emphasized.

The conflict, which began on February 28 amid indirect nuclear talks, included the assassination of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, along with senior military and government officials. In retaliation, Iranian forces have launched nearly 80 waves of strikes targeting American and Israeli military assets in the region.

In recent days, the United States has engaged regional partners in attempts to persuade Iran to halt retaliatory attacks, which have severely damaged American and Israeli infrastructure, and to allow passage of US vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran’s stance indicates a firm refusal to compromise on sovereignty and security, signaling that the war’s resolution will depend entirely on Tehran’s terms rather than external pressure.
