Iran Reaffirms Defiance Against US Pressure and Calls for New Global Order at BRICS Meeting

NEW DELHI: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has declared that the Iranian people have “firmly and proudly” resisted what he described as “horrific violence” and will never surrender to the will of the United States, which he said is a “declining imperial power”.

Speaking at the two-day meeting of BRICS foreign ministers in New Delhi on Thursday, hosted by India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Araghchi said Iran remains both resilient under pressure and open to diplomacy.

“It is a fragile reality. Imperial power in decline wants to turn back the clock and is desperately lashing out on its way down,” he said, adding that Iran “is unbreakable and only emerges stronger and more united when under pressure”.

He further stated that Iran is prepared to defend its sovereignty and territory “with everything” while also remaining willing to pursue diplomatic solutions.

Araghchi alleged that the United States and Israel have carried out “unlawful and unjustified” acts of aggression against Iran, claiming these actions contradict assessments by international and intelligence institutions.

He said Iran, like other independent nations, is a victim of “illegal expansionism and warmongering”, adding that global instability ultimately harms all sides, including those who initiate it.

The Iranian foreign minister also said that Iran’s institutions, including its armed forces, medical personnel, educators, and law enforcement agencies, continue to serve the country with commitment despite ongoing pressures.

Reiterating Iran’s position, Araghchi said there is no military solution to issues involving his country, emphasising that Iran seeks peace but will respond strongly to threats.

“We Iranians never bow to pressure or threats, but we reciprocate respect. We are not the aggressor in this situation but the aggrieved,” he said.

He also highlighted the role of BRICS as a platform for shaping a new global order, arguing that countries of the Global South are increasingly central to global decision-making.

Araghchi urged BRICS members to work together to challenge what he described as impunity in international affairs and to oppose the politicisation of global institutions.

He called for stronger collective action to uphold international law and prevent further escalation of conflicts, saying BRICS could become a key pillar in building a “more just and balanced global order”.

The remarks came amid heightened tensions in the region, with Iran reiterating its position on sovereignty, resistance, and diplomatic engagement alongside continued geopolitical disputes involving Western powers.
