JAKARTA, July 4, 2025: Indonesia’s Foreign Minister Sugiono is set to travel to Kuala Lumpur next week to participate in the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and a series of related forums scheduled from July 8 to 11.

According to Indonesia’s Director-General for ASEAN Cooperation, Siddharto Suryodhipuro, the minister will engage in key regional dialogues, high-level policy discussions, and bilateral meetings with ASEAN’s strategic partners.

“The AMM provides a vital platform for ASEAN member states to address emerging regional and global issues. This year’s meeting is particularly significant as Southeast Asia navigates a complex geopolitical landscape,” Siddharto said during a press briefing in Jakarta on Thursday.

Among the highlights of Sugiono’s agenda is his role as co-chair of the ASEAN-Australia Ministerial Meeting, reflecting Indonesia’s current role as ASEAN’s country coordinator for relations with Australia.

Malaysia, which holds the ASEAN Chairmanship for 2025, will host the meetings—marking its fifth time leading the regional bloc since previous chairmanships in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.

Siddharto emphasized that this year’s AMM will cover a broad range of pressing topics, including regional security, economic cooperation, and developments impacting Southeast Asia’s stability and prosperity.

In addition to the AMM, Sugiono is also expected to attend the Conference on Cooperation Among East Asian Countries for Palestinian Development (CEAPAD), which Malaysia is also hosting concurrently.

“With Minister Sugiono’s active participation, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to ASEAN’s goals of fostering peace, stability, and sustainable development across the region,” Siddharto added.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) currently comprises 10 member states: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
