KAJANG, Sept 26 (VoM):The National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) has expressed its appreciation to the MADANI Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for approving the installation of high-technology closed-circuit television (CCTV) systems at all 18 centralized detention facilities across Malaysia.

The initiative was announced by the prime minister during a meeting of the National Governance Cabinet Special Committee as part of the government’s commitment under the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) to enhance integrity, accountability, and transparency in law enforcement agencies.

The project will involve the installation of approximately 550 CCTV units at strategic locations in AADK detention centers. The move aims to improve operational transparency, prevent unwanted incidents, minimize human error, and integrate modern technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) for more efficient surveillance.

AADK stated that this preventive measure is designed to ensure the safety and protection of detainees’ human rights, in line with the standards set by the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (SUHAKAM) and international benchmarks.

This initiative also reflects the government’s determination, particularly the Ministry of Home Affairs, to modernize AADK facilities and strengthen the management and security of detainees with integrity.

Furthermore, the effort aligns with the recent amendment to the Drug and Substance Abuse (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983, which came into effect on August 22, 2025.
