KOTA BHARU : PAS Vice-President, Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, expects the 16th General Election (GE16) to be held this year between late October and November.

According to Mohd Amar, this is based on current political developments as well as rumours surrounding the matter.

“This year is expected to see GE16 take place. In the near future, the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections will be held, and after that, possibly the Melaka state election.

“It is likely that after the Melaka state election, Parliament will be dissolved, as there are many signs and rumours indicating that the general election will be held this year. However, the exact month or date remains uncertain.

“Some say it will be in July after the Prime Minister returns from his overseas trip, but the stronger view points towards late October to November.

“In any case, the general election will take place this year. Therefore, we need to increase our commitment and determination, besides strengthening the party’s position at all levels, to face the possibility of the general election,” he said in his speech at the PAS Pengkalan Chepa Division Annual General Assembly, which was officiated by the Menteri Besar, Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.

Elaborating further, Mohd Amar, who is also the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly, reminded the party machinery not to make preparations at the last minute.

“We cannot predict or read the minds of voters, especially young voters, as their thinking is different.

“I also remind the party machinery not to look down on the existence of new parties, as the approaches they use are able to attract the attention of young voters,” he said.
