KUALA LUMPUR: Five individuals were detained and various China-made food products and liquids believed to contain alcohol, with a total value exceeding RM1 million, were seized during the integrated Ops Taring Alpha 5 operation at Taman Perindustrian Subang in Subang Jaya on Thursday.

Wildlife Crime Bureau/Special Investigation Intelligence (WCB/PSK) Commander Datuk Mohd Zaki Ashar said the raid was conducted at 11.30am in collaboration with the Petaling District Health Office, Ministry of Health, Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) and Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ).

He said authorities seized 118 types of China-made food products and 23 boxes containing various liquids believed to be alcoholic beverages and suspected of being untaxed, with the total seizure valued at RM1,022,635.

“One Malaysian and four Myanmar nationals, who worked as a supervisor, workers and the premises manager, were detained.

“An inspection of the premises found several instances of non-compliance with the law, including offences under the Food Act 1983, Customs Act 1967 and Immigration Act 1959/63,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Mohd Zaki said the success of the operation highlighted the importance of cooperation and coordination between agencies in tackling the distribution of goods that do not comply with regulations, particularly when offences fall under the jurisdiction of different agencies.

He said the integrated operational approach allowed comprehensive enforcement action to be taken, covering not only crime and smuggling but also food safety, compliance with premises licensing requirements, as well as customs and immigration enforcement.

“WCB/PSK will continue to strengthen strategic cooperation with relevant agencies through information sharing, intelligence operations and integrated enforcement activities to combat activities that could undermine the interests and safety of the public and the country,” he said.
