KUALA LUMPUR, 22 July 2025:  The Immigration Department of Malaysia has uncovered a counterfeit passport syndicate operating out of a residential apartment in Kepong, following a successful enforcement operation carried out early this morning.

The operation, codenamed Ops Serkap, was led by the Kuala Lumpur Immigration Department’s Enforcement Division. During the raid, two Bangladeshi nationals in their 20s were arrested while in the act of producing forged passports inside a makeshift workshop set up in one of the apartment’s bedrooms.

According to authorities, hundreds of counterfeit passports were discovered on-site, raising serious concerns over the scale and reach of the illegal operation. Preliminary findings indicate that the syndicate charged RM400 per fake passport, with production time averaging just 10 minutes per document.

“The operation was carried out based on intelligence and close surveillance. The efficiency and speed of the syndicate’s operations are alarming,” said a senior officer from the Immigration Department.

Investigators believe the syndicate had been operating for several months and may have links to a broader network involving the illegal distribution of falsified travel documents to foreign nationals.

The two suspects are currently being held for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and relevant provisions of the Passport Act 1966 for possession and production of fraudulent documents.

The Immigration Department reiterated its firm commitment to eradicating syndicates that threaten national security and public order, urging the public to report any suspicious activities involving immigration offences.

“Document forgery not only undermines the integrity of our immigration system but also poses a serious threat to national security,” the department added.

Further investigations are underway to trace other individuals involved and to determine the full extent of the network’s operations.
