PUTRAJAYA: Communication Minister Fahmi Fadzil has advised Perikatan Nasional Whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan to discuss the Opposition Allocation Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusoff in an orderly manner.

According to the MalaysiaGazette portal, Fahmi stated that Takiyuddin should not raise the issue publicly and should instead learn how previous governments managed similar matters.

“When we were in the opposition and discussed with the then Prime Minister, Bera (Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob), we did not discuss these matters with the media.

“So, if they follow our example and discuss things properly and orderly, there will be no problem. The Deputy Prime Minister YAB Datuk Seri Fadillah has stated that this is a draft… come and meet, express your views, we can discuss,” he said.

Fahmi made these remarks during a weekly press conference for the Unity Government at his ministry today.

He was responding to questions from journalists regarding Takiyuddin’s disclosure about seven conditions, including support for the government until the end of the 15th Parliament term, that opposition MPs must meet in order to receive the allocations they have been demanding.

In his press conference yesterday, Takiyuddin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kota Bharu, said that all these conditions are outlined in the draft MoU on Opposition Allocations that he received on August 6.

He added that PN is still discussing the conditions and will make a decision on them this month.

Among the seven requirements, obligations, and conditions for opposition MPs include issues related to religion, race, and royalty (3R), including the declaration of assets.

Meanwhile, Fahmi suggested that Takiyuddin promptly meet with Fadillah to discuss the matter, as this is the appropriate forum for such discussions.

“So…I urge Datuk Seri Takiyuddin and his opposition colleagues to meet with the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Fadillah, and discuss in an orderly manner… that is the proper forum, not in press conferences as done… that is not orderly,” he said.
