Two F-16 fighter jets from the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) were sent out on Friday to find and shoot down an unknown aircraft that was seen above the border between Thailand and Myanmar in Tak province.

Air Force spokeswoman Air Marshal Prapas Sornjaidee said that at 10:51 a.m. on Friday, the RTAF radar picked up a signal from an unknown aircraft near the border between Thailand and Myanmar in the Phop Phra district of Tak province.

He said that two F-16 fighter jets were sent right away from Wing 4’s base in Takhli district, Nakhon Sawan province. The F-16s will fly at a height of 7,000 feet to find and shoot down the plane, which was flying between 4,000 and 5,000 feet above the ground.

But the unknown plane flew away from the border and was no longer seen on radar. The F-16s then went back to their job of watching the border between Thailand and Myanmar and arrived back at their base at 12:14 a.m.

Prapas said that sending fighter jets to find and shoot down an unknown aircraft that is seen as a possible threat to Thailand shows that the RTAF is ready to protect the country’s airspace and uphold its sovereignty, keeping the people who live near the borders safe and at peace.
