KUALA LUMPUR: The Cabinet of Ministers agreed to target subsidies on diesel, thereby saving the government RM4 billion a year, said Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Berita Harian reported, Anwar said that the diesel subsidy targeting does not involve consumers in Sabah and Sarawak.

He said the exemption was given because most families in Sabah and Sarawak use diesel for their daily vehicle use.

He also said “Those that will not benefit from the subsidy rationalisation are the T20 and foreigners,”.

“In the Peninsula, in order to reduce the sudden increase in the price of goods, we provide subsidies to commercial users including 10 types of vehicles and 23 types of transport under the subsidized diesel control system,” he said in the Special Nation Address broadcast live on all local media channels today.
