Death Toll in Southern Thailand Floods Rises to 162

BANGKOK, Saturday: The devastating floods sweeping across southern Thailand have claimed at least 162 lives, government spokesperson Siripong Angkasakulkiat confirmed today, marking a sharp rise from the earlier reported toll of 145.

According to officials, continuous heavy rainfall over the past several days has triggered widespread flooding across multiple provinces, inundating homes, farmland, and critical infrastructure. Rescue teams are struggling to reach several remote and heavily affected areas due to damaged roads and strong water currents.

The government has deployed military units, emergency responders, and medical teams to assist with evacuations and relief operations. Thousands of residents have been forced to flee to temporary shelters as water levels continue to rise in some districts.

Authorities warn that the death toll could climb further, as several people remain missing and rescue efforts are ongoing. The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in the coming days, raising concerns over potential new flash floods and landslides.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has instructed all relevant agencies to expedite aid distribution, restore essential services, and closely monitor at-risk zones.
