KUALA LUMPUR: Singer Dayang Nurfaizah thinks that while it’s impossible to stop people from utilising artificial intelligence (AI) in many different ways these days, there should be regulations from the appropriate authorities to limit the use of AI and prevent it from being misused by careless individuals.

The 42-year-old Sarawakian singer stated in a news article today that while she is open-minded about AI, she is worried that careless people might misuse it, posing a risk to privacy and safety.

“I found that there are many videos that make it sound like a particular singer is singing another artiste’s song, after being alerted by fans on social media platforms such as YouTube,” she stated.

In one of the aforementioned videos, Dayang is singing using artificial intelligence (AI) to the tune “Aku Cinta Padamu,” which is performed by Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza.

“I’ve also heard the AI version of Siti singing (Dayang’s) ‘Seandainya Masih Ada Cinta’, but of course, a real live version of her performance would be way much better, that much is certain,” she stated.

Dayang continued, saying that even if she finds AI videos to be easily recognised because they have a slightly robotic voice, this trend may eventually threaten the music business.
