Coronation Ceremony Reinforces Loyalty to the Constitutional Monarchy
KUALA LUMPUR: The coronation ceremony of the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong tomorrow is crucial for reinforcing the people’s loyalty to the long-established system of constitutional monarchy.
According to Bernama, a special Friday sermon for the coronation titled “Raja Ditaati, Negara Dirahmati” (Obey the King, the Nation is Blessed) states that tomorrow’s ceremony is highly significant. It not only symbolizes the constitutional monarchy system in Malaysia but also elevates the dignity of His Majesty as the nation’s sovereign.
The sermon highlights that Sultan Ibrahim, when taking the oath of office as Yang di-Pertuan Agong on January 31, clearly emphasized his commitment to govern justly according to the laws and the Federal Constitution.
“His Majesty also pledged to uphold the sanctity of Islam in accordance with the powers allocated in the Federal Constitution,” according to the sermon text posted on the website of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) today.
The sermon also mentions that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong plays a role in fostering and maintaining unity and ensuring that the nation’s administration remains on the right track to preserve its sovereignty and the welfare of the people.
“The relationship between the king and the people is likened to a tree, with the king as the tree and the people as its roots. Clearly, a tree cannot survive without strong roots, and roots also need a living and well-functioning tree.
“This is what is known as a symbiotic relationship, showing that the king needs the people and the people also need the king as their protector,” the sermon states.
The sermon calls on Muslims to understand that the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the institution of the Malay Rulers must be defended. It also emphasizes that His Majesty serves as the Head of Islam for the non-royal states, namely Penang, Sarawak, Sabah, Melaka, and the Federal Territories, while in other states, the Sultan or Raja is the Head of Islam.
“The people can live peacefully with this system, free from chaos or disorder, because we believe we have a sovereign king who is also the highest ruler of our country, known as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” the sermon says.
Muslims are also urged to show loyalty to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in fulfilling His Majesty’s significant responsibilities.
“Let us all pray that the coronation ceremony taking place tomorrow proceeds smoothly and under the protection of Allah SWT. Furthermore, let us offer prayers for the well-being, safety, and assistance for His Majesty in leading and guiding the people of this nation according to the Constitution and the principles of Islam,” the sermon concludes.
