Citizenship applications to be decided within a year from 2025

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that they will decide on the approval of citizenship applications within a year starting next year.

He said that the Home Ministry (KDN) established a standard operating procedure (SOP) to guarantee effective handling of citizenship concerns.

He added it was also a reflection of the MADANI Government’s dedication to protecting and defending people’s rights.

“God willing, every applicant for citizenship will get a decision within a year, starting next year.”  On his social media profile today, he remarked, “This is the SOP that I have set for the KDN team.”

From December 21, 2022, to November 27, 2024, the Ministry of Home Affairs has processed 32,408 applications for Malaysian citizenship, according to Saifuddin.

“Alhamdulillah, we have completed and considered more than 80 percent of the applications that have been waiting for more than five years,” he said.
