KUALA LUMPUR: The Cheras Parliamentary Zone 3 Residents’ Council organized a Road Safety Awareness Campaign and distributed Madani helmets to Form 4 and 5 students today.

According to Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai, 10 secondary schools in Cheras received the helmets to raise awareness among students.

He stated that this is the first time the Cheras Parliament has organized such a program.

“Today’s campaign is important because road safety awareness in Malaysia, particularly among teenagers, is still low.

“This campaign serves as constructive education to remind the public to adopt courteous driving behavior and prioritize the safety of themselves and others on the road,” he said during the program at the DBKL Institute (IDB).

Also present at the event was Assistant Superintendent (ASP) Mohd Azhar Abdul Aziz from the PDRM Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department.

He added that the campaign aims not only to provide free Madani helmets but also to educate the recipients.

He noted that the rate of road accidents involving motorcyclists is very high.

“For the year 2023, there were nearly 600,000 road accidents in Malaysia, with a very high death toll of 6,443.

“Of these numbers, 65% are motorcyclist fatalities,” he said.

He further explained that this is why the Cheras Parliamentary Residents’ Council decided to contribute Madani helmets.

He also advised parents not to allow their children to ride motorcycles without wearing helmets.

“This is not a healthy and safe practice. It should be avoided.

“To save lives and prevent road tragedies, we need to ensure that students wear helmets and follow road regulations,” he said.

Tan also mentioned that similar campaigns will be held in the future to encourage students to wear helmets while riding motorcycles.

“If other zones wish to organize similar campaigns, I encourage them to do so,” he said.
