BN denies false statement about 4 individuals appearing in Nenggiri by-election
KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) denies issuing any statement disallowing any of its District Voting Units (UDM) from inviting four individuals, including PKR Deputy President Rafizi Ramli, to speak at campaign rallies throughout the Nenggiri State Assembly by-election in Kelantan.
According to Bernama, through a post on Facebook today, BN stated that such false statements are political ploys aimed at dividing unity within the current government.
The coalition party mentioned that all official media statements will only be published on BN’s official Facebook page.
“We hope that everyone will not be deceived by political maneuvers like this every time elections approach. We urge all parties to responsibly refrain from spreading such fake news again,” the statement read.
The false statement dated 24 July, purportedly issued under the name of BN Chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, listed the names of four individuals allegedly barred from participating in the Nenggiri by-election due to drawing lessons from the defeat in the Sungai Bakap by-election.
Apart from Rafizi, the other three named individuals are UMNO Supreme Council Member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam, UMNO Youth Information Chief for Jeli Division Wan Mahussin Wan Zain, and an influencer known as Wan Hadi.
The Election Commission (SPR) has set the candidate nomination and early voting day for the by-election on 3 August and 13 August respectively, with polling day scheduled for 17 August.
