PUTRAJAYA: Chief Advisor of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, will pay an official visit to Malaysia from 11 to 13 August 2025 at the invitation of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The visit reciprocates Prime Minister Anwar’s official trip to Bangladesh in October 2024 and aims to further enhance bilateral cooperation between the two nations. Several senior advisors and high-ranking government officials will accompany Dr. Yunus.

An official welcoming ceremony will be held at the Perdana Putra Complex in Putrajaya on 12 August, followed by a bilateral meeting between the two leaders. Discussions are expected to cover key areas including trade and investment, labor, education, tourism, and defense, as well as regional and global developments of mutual interest.

Both leaders will witness the signing of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering defense, energy, strategic and international studies, semiconductor capacity building, and trade promotion. Additionally, there will be an exchange of notes on diplomatic training and higher education. Prime Minister Anwar will also host an official luncheon at the Seri Perdana Complex in honor of Dr. Yunus and his delegation.

On 13 August, Dr. Yunus will deliver a public lecture and receive an Honorary Doctorate in Social Business from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He will also meet members of the Yunus Social Business Centre and the UKM network in a joint program organized by the university.

Malaysia and Bangladesh recorded a total trade volume of RM13.35 billion (USD 2.92 billion) in 2024, representing a 5.1% increase from 2023. Malaysia’s key exports to Bangladesh include petroleum products, palm oil, and chemicals, while imports from Bangladesh consist mainly of textiles, footwear, petroleum products, and manufactured goods.

The upcoming visit is expected to solidify bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual benefit, building on more than five decades of diplomatic ties established in 1972.
