Anwar wants strict action against corrupt offenders
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim insisted that the country will not be safe if professional and firm action is not taken against any misconduct or corruption.
Bernama reported that he wanted the police to take firm action based on clear facts against criminals and corrupt offenders regardless of status in order to uphold justice.
Anwar said many among the people feel restless and complain when the investigation of criminal and corruption cases takes a long time, but the people should also understand the move to ensure that the investigation can be done fairly without protecting any party.
“I don’t want to be prime minister but to protect criminals or corrupt people. So make sure the action is professional, fair and non-punitive before there are facts and look at the legal angle.
“I touched on this matter directly in this ceremony because the victim was also a sportsman active in athletics. So the guarantee is important so that there is a feeling among all the people, both sportsmen and civil servants, that there will be decisive action,” he said when speaking at the 2023 National Sports Awards Ceremony at the National Sports Council, Bukit Jalil.
Also present was Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and her deputy, Adam Adli Abd Halim.
