Anwar Urges Harimau Malaya to Give Their Best Against Vietnam
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Monday offered words of encouragement and wished Harimau Malaya the best of luck ahead of their ASEAN FIFA Cup 2026 third-place playoff against Vietnam this afternoon.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Anwar urged the national players to fight with determination and deliver their best performance for the pride of the badge on their chests.
“Malaysians are with you. Hopefully, this match will not require too much extra time,” he said.
The national squad are scheduled to face Vietnam in the third-place playoff at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta at 5pm today (Malaysian time), while the final between Indonesia and Thailand will take place at the same venue at 8pm.
In their final Group A Division 1 match at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, Indonesia, last Thursday, Malaysia thrashed Singapore 6-0, but the result was not enough to take the national side into the final based on goals scored.
Malaysia and Indonesia were level on seven points and both recorded a goal difference of nine, but the advantage went to the Garuda squad, who scored 11 goals compared with Malaysia’s nine.
Indonesia secured their place in the final as group champions after defeating Bangladesh 9-2 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta and will face Group B champions Thailand for the title.
