KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has strongly condemned the attack on Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh.

According to Sinar Harian, Anwar stated that the killing was tragically and brutally aimed at thwarting negotiations to end the atrocities of the Zionist Israeli regime in Gaza, which has claimed over 40,000 lives.

“This large-scale massacre can only occur with the assumption that no one will be held accountable and punished,” he said.

He added that only those lacking humanity would fail to recognize the need to increase pressure on the barbaric Zionist Israeli regime to stop the attacks and oppression.

“The Palestinian people have faced disaster and suffering for decades, and I am deeply concerned about their fate following the murder of our brother Ismail Haniyeh,” Anwar explained.

He also criticized those who had previously questioned his meeting with Ismail Haniyeh, stating that they failed to appreciate the former Palestinian Prime Minister’s deep desire for a peaceful Middle East and the establishment of a dignified and free Palestinian state.

“I mourn the loss of a close friend and a true champion of the Palestinian people,” he added.

Earlier, Anwar made a phone call to Hamas Political Bureau member Dr. Basem Naim to extend his condolences to the Palestinian people over Ismail Haniyeh’s killing.

“We are still shocked and very angry that the international community has failed to advocate for and ensure that peace and justice are upheld,” he said.
