Anwar Scheduled to Meet Industry Leaders, Deliver Keynote Address in Shanghai
SHANGHAI: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to hold a roundtable discussion with industry leaders and deliver a keynote address at the WorldSkills Conference 2026 here today.
The Prime Minister will begin his programme with a discussion involving about 21 industry leaders from China as part of efforts to attract high-quality, high-impact investments to Malaysia.
He is then expected to attend the opening ceremony of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, which will be officiated by Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC).
Taking place from Sept 22 to 27, WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 is a major international platform showcasing excellence in technical and vocational skills.
At the 48th WorldSkills Competition, Malaysia is represented by 22 competitors who will compete in 21 skill categories under the ‘Road to Gold’ agenda, which aims to secure the country’s first gold medal at the prestigious global competition.
About 1,400 skilled young people from more than 65 countries and regions have gathered in China’s largest city to compete in 64 skill categories.
In the afternoon, the Prime Minister and his delegation will travel by high-speed train to Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang province, to continue the visit.
Upon arriving in Hangzhou, Anwar is scheduled to hold face-to-face meetings with senior executives from technology companies AgiBot, Huawei and Alibaba Group, as well as automotive company Geely and Chinese multinational telecommunications technology and equipment company ZTE Group.
Anwar will then attend a dinner hosted by Li Qiang.
The Prime Minister’s agenda will also include the launch of the Mandarin translation of his book, Rethinking Ourselves: Justice, Reform, and Ignorance in Postnormal Times.
China has remained Malaysia’s largest trading partner for 17 consecutive years, with bilateral trade reaching US$113.82 billion (RM456.68 billion) from January to August this year.
The Prime Minister arrived here yesterday for a three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou.
