Anwar Confident Malaysian Contingent Will Achieve Success at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026
SHANGHAI: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed confidence that Malaysia’s 22 young competitors will achieve success at the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 competition.
The Prime Minister said he believed the Malaysian participants, who will compete against contestants from more than 60 countries across 21 skill areas, would give their best in pursuit of victory.
“At the invitation of Premier Li Qiang, I attended and witnessed the Malaysian contingent’s parade at the opening ceremony of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 last night.
“Congratulations to our 22 young talents who represent the best of Malaysia in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), proudly carrying the Jalur Gemilang with confidence and pride.
“I pray that their hard work will not go to waste, but instead bring proud results in their mission to win gold medals for our beloved country,” he said in a Facebook post last night.
The Prime Minister attended the opening ceremony as part of his three-day working visit to Shanghai and Hangzhou, from yesterday until Thursday, at the invitation of the Chinese government.
Anwar was accompanied by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani and Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The Malaysian contingent is led by Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan as Chef de Mission.
The four-day skills competition runs from Sept 23 to 26, while the WorldSkills Conference 2026 is being held concurrently to discuss the future of skills development, including the roles of governments, industries and educational institutions.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at the conference’s plenary session today, completing the agenda of his working visit to China, which focuses on strengthening Malaysia-China relations, TVET, technology, the digital economy and industrial cooperation.
