Anwar meets with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer

On Wednesday, January 15, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will convene with his counterpart from the United Kingdom, Sir Keir Starmer.

Anwar arrived in the United Kingdom for a five-day working visit on Tuesday. Starmer received him at his office at No. 10, Downing Street, at 1 p.m. (9 p.m. Malaysian time). Anwar and Starmer subsequently lead their respective delegations at a bilateral meeting, with the primary objective of fortifying the long-standing relationship between the two nations.

Malaysian High Commissioner to the UK and Northern Ireland Datuk Zakri Jaafar, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir, Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, and Investment, Trade, and Industry Minister Senator Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz are accompanying Anwar.

We anticipate that both leaders will discuss a variety of bilateral and international matters during the meeting.

Anwar, the finance minister, will participate in a product launch by YTL Group UK later in the day.

The United Kingdom is Malaysia’s fourth greatest trading partner in Europe, with a total trade volume of RM15.30 billion (US$3.34 billion) in the first 11 months of 2024.
