Anwar hopes Prabowo recovers quickly after the postponed meeting
Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says the country hopes Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto stays healthy and can’t wait to meet him in Pulau Langkawi.
In a Facebook post, Anwar mentioned that the meeting with Prabowo has been postponed due to Prabowo’s fever.
President Prabowo Subianto is coming to see our family and me today (Dec. 23), so we are already in Pulau Langkawi.
“But he asked to put off the meeting last night for a few days because he had a fever.”
“We are praying for Prabowo to recover as soon as possible while continuing the plan for a meeting between the two countries,” he said.
He also said that on December 26, he would meet Thaksin Shinawatra, the former prime minister of Thailand.
Prabowo and Thaksin are going to Langkawi to talk about strategic problems in the region and changes in ASEAN.
We scheduled the meeting with Prabowo for Monday and the meeting with Thaksin for December 26.
Anwar said that the main goals of the planned meeting with Prabowo will be to improve relations between the two countries and talk about Indonesia’s role as a key member of ASEAN.
Anwar said that the meeting with Thaksin will cover topics of regional development and look into diplomatic ways to deal with problems that affect everyone.
Anwar just recently said that Thaksin will be his secret advisor when he leads ASEAN in 2025.
The news was shared at a press meeting with Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who is Thaksin’s daughter and was in Putrajaya on December 16 for a visit.
On January 1, 2025, Malaysia will officially become the chairman of ASEAN. It is “Inclusion and Sustainability” that Malaysia will lead ASEAN in 2025.
Malaysia has been the chair of ASEAN four times before, in 1977, 1997, 2005, and 2015.
