KAZAN : Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed his appreciation to Russian President Vladimir Putin for his country’s consistent stance regarding the Gaza issue and the current geopolitical situation involving Iran.
Anwar said that Russia has maintained a principled position on both matters.
“I take this opportunity to thank you for your stance on Gaza and Iran. You have taken a very consistent and principled position,” he said during his speech at a bilateral meeting with Putin here yesterday.
The Prime Minister said that the people of Malaysia and many other parties admire Putin’s firmness and conviction in defending that position.
“And on behalf of the people of Malaysia and many others, I must say how much we admire your firmness and conviction,” he said.
From a geopolitical perspective, Gaza and Iran are major issues in the broader competition for influence in West Asia, which also involves major powers including the United States, Russia and China.
Russia has consistently taken a stance in support of a ceasefire in Gaza, humanitarian access for the Palestinian people, and a diplomatic solution to the regional conflict.
Moscow also maintains close ties with Tehran while urging dialogue and a negotiated settlement rather than military confrontation.
