All Universities should expand digital and AI courses to non-STEM students
KUALA LUMPUR: All universities in the country are urged to expand digital and artificial intelligence (AI) courses to students outside of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, such as those in the humanities.
According to Bernama, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stated that this initiative is aimed at addressing the shortage of engineers in the sector to meet industry needs, following investments from several major technology companies including Amazon, Google, Microsoft, and Infineon.
“In the past, we said that digital and AI courses must be pursued by graduates in Science, Mathematics, and related fields. However, there is also a need to include students from the humanities to take part in some of these courses.
“When I visited India recently, a company there mentioned that not all digital or AI roles must be filled by engineering graduates. Some roles can be filled by graduates from the humanities or other specialized courses tailored for specific needs,” he said.
He made these remarks while speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the ‘Kerian Integrated Green Industrial Park’ in Kerian, Perak today.
