KUALA LUMPUR: According to home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the government is thinking of using cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) technology to improve border security in the nation.

He claimed that this was in line with the goals of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, who wants Malaysia to develop into a high-income, sustainable country with a secure environment.

“To protect the harmony and sustainability of the nation, threats like cyberattacks, radicalism, and extremism need to be handled effectively,” Saifuddin stated today at a joint press conference with Defence Minister Khaled Nordin.

One of the actions made to improve border security, according to him, is the creation of the Malaysia Checkpoints and Border Agency (MCBA).

Anwar declared on Thursday that as of May 1, the borders of the nation fell under the jurisdiction of MCBA.

He noted that even though Parliament has not yet approved the MCBA’s creation, pertinent agencies like immigration and customs might start operating immediately.

Saifuddin claims that the Attorney-General’s Chambers have not yet had a chance to evaluate the bill.

The 18th Defence Services Asia Exhibition and Conference and the 3rd International Exhibition on National Security for Asia 2024, which will take place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre here from May 6 to 9, were the subjects of a walkabout earlier attended by both ministers.
