AI and Microtools Fuel a New Era of Entrepreneurship in Saudi Arabia

JEDDAH, June 21— As digital transformation accelerates across the Middle East, Saudi Arabia is witnessing a surge in next-generation entrepreneurs launching businesses via social media and leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and microtools to build sustainable ventures.

With platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and WhatsApp replacing traditional storefronts and websites, a new wave of social-first entrepreneurs is emerging—meeting customers where they already spend time and turning engagement into sales.

“Generative AI is reshaping the future of business,” said Selina Bieber, Vice President for International Markets at GoDaddy, a U.S.-based web hosting and digital tools provider. “When combined with digital marketing, the results are transformative.”

According to the GoDaddy 2025 Global Entrepreneurship Survey, 22 percent of small business owners in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) now operate primarily through social media, underscoring a growing trend toward social commerce, especially among solo founders and part-time entrepreneurs.

The Rise and Risks of Social-First Businesses

While social media offers high visibility, it also comes with limitations. Entrepreneurs have little control over algorithms or policy changes that may impact visibility or earnings. Additionally, many customers look for added trust signals before making purchases—often in the form of a standalone website.

A 2024 Checkout report on MENA digital commerce found that 73 percent of online shoppers are more confident buying from businesses with a dedicated website rather than social-only operations.

In response, many small businesses are now turning to branded microsites, product catalog tools, and smart link features to establish a more credible, centralized online presence—without needing advanced tech expertise.

AI as a Launchpad for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming a key enabler for early-stage business owners, helping them transition quickly from concept to launch. AI-powered tools are being used to write product descriptions, automate customer service, develop pricing strategies, and streamline marketing efforts.

Internal data shows that these tools can save small business owners up to 10 hours per week, giving them more time to focus on growth and customer relationships.

Beyond time savings, AI also democratizes entrepreneurship by reducing technical and financial barriers, enabling more people—especially youth and women—to launch businesses with minimal upfront investment.

Saudi Arabia’s Push Toward Digital Empowerment

Saudi Arabia has positioned itself as a regional leader in this shift. In 2023, GoDaddy signed a strategic agreement with the Kingdom’s General Authority for Small and Medium Enterprises (Monsha’at) during the Biban 23 entrepreneurship forum in Riyadh. The partnership aims to equip Saudi entrepreneurs with the digital tools, training, and confidence to succeed online.

The collaboration includes workshops, business accelerators, and digital content initiatives designed to showcase local success stories and inspire others.

“We’re inspired to see Saudi entrepreneurs confidently embracing technology,” said Bieber. “They are redefining what it means to be a small business owner in the digital age.”

Owning the Digital Future

While many entrepreneurs begin their journeys on social media, experts agree that long-term success hinges on owning and shaping a dedicated digital presence. Tools like GoDaddy’s Show in Bio and professional website builders offer greater control, brand distinction, and protection against impersonation—key concerns in today’s online landscape.

The current generation of Saudi entrepreneurs is pragmatic, tech-savvy, and eager to blend social engagement with long-term brand strategy. With access to intuitive AI tools and affordable platforms, turning a passion project into a scalable business is now more achievable than ever.

“Social media may be where the journey starts—but building lasting value depends on owning your presence,” Bieber concluded.
